Oliver Taylor Sr.

OLIVER LEE TAYLOR, SR. was born on November 3, 1938, to the late Richard Taylor and Rebecca Williams in Gray, Virginia. God called him home for eternal rest on July 18, 2024. He was not only a wonderful and loving husband, father, and grandfather, but also a loving brother, brother-n-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. His grandchildren affectionately called him “Poppy” and he was 1 of 9 children. In 1963, Oliver married the love of his life, who he met in elementary school, Katie Jackson. They moved to Baltimore to begin their journey in life together. Out of their great union, they had a son, who they named Oliver, Jr. This journey lasted for 57 years. Oliver was a quiet, gentle person who was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved playing softball and enjoyed bowling back in the day. In addition to watching baseball and football, Oliver and his friends celebrated the Super Bowl each year by getting together at each other’s homes with a spread of food to enjoy the game. Another favorite thing Oliver enjoyed doing was watching old Westerns. Some of these shows were Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Rifleman, and Big Valley. Oliver did well and accomplished remarkable things despite his limited education. He was the epitome of a hardworking man. He started a long-term career at General Motors where he retired after 30+ years of dedicated service. In addition to working at General Motors full-time, Oliver worked part-time as a supervisor for a janitorial company. Moreover, he also worked with several catering companies for many years. He always provided for his family until he decided to retire from working altogether. Oliver joined his wife at Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church. He was an active and faithful church member. He was a part of the T.C. Jackson Male Chorus and security detail. Oliver leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted son, Oliver Taylor, Jr. (Kimberly); four grandchildren, Omar, Donté, Olivia and Khalil; his brother in Maryland, Robert Taylor; his sisters in Virginia, Annie Mason, Betty Dixon, and Stella Miller; and his sister in South Carolina, Mable Turman; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rebecca, his sister, Rosa, and his brothers, Richard, Jr., and Charles
